Just like a friend who always says he is 'broke' and needs to bum (a.k.a.: take with no chance of being re-paid in any way) money from a friend in order to 'hang out' with said friend, who is visiting from out-of-town, rock bands will do anything to gain with as little work or personal responsibility as possible. Each are the lowest common denominator: leeches who suck the life out of others hard-earned work in order to maintain a level that is well beyond the person(s) natural means.
If you do not have the means to be that good, then don't steal (or borrow - without any intention of paying back) to make your name better. Sooner or later, or even as soon as you steal (or borrow), someone will know (or will be talking behind your back).
Led Zeppelin has had a history of borrowing lyrics, rhythm, riffs, etc, from blues musicians. Most of these 'borrowings' happened with Led Zeppelin's first albumn.
Here is a link from The Howard Stern Show showing these stolen materials.
But at least Led Zeppelin rocked! They are still popular today. Their music is still just as relevant today as thirty years ago. Can anybody imagine a band like Coldplay having that same influence thirty years from now?
Coldplay has been recently accused of stealing. Coldplay has been accused, and sued, by guitarist Joe Satriani for copyright infringement, saying that Coldplay had taken “substantial original portions” of his song “If I Could Fly” for its song “Viva la Vida.”
Here is the proof...
