The 4th is here, and it is time to give celebration to America. America the brave; America the strong; America the beautiful. All three are true to America, but not to those who are in charge of America: the average American citizen.
Brave?
3/4 of American's disapprove of Bush's performance, but the recent polls suggest a near 50-50 split between who wants Obama and who wants McCain. Like there is a difference between McCain and Bush. McCain will be Bush's third term. Isn't it funny that Bush has a 30% approval rating, and the percentage of Americans who call themselves "Evangelical Christian" is 30% of the U.S. population.
That is all the republicans have left: religious freaks. McCain NEEDS them. That is the base. Without them, he has no chance. What do these religious freaks want? War with Iran, continued occupation in Iraq, attacking any who threaten Jewish Israel or Christian U.S. Show some bravery "the other 20% who want McCain". See past the war mongering, the fear tactics, and the propaganda. See past the color of the opponents skin and the FAKE stories him being Muslim (not that there's anything wrong with that - from Seinfeld).
New Rule: if you are asked who you are voting for and you respond "I think I am going to vote for the old man. Isn't the black guy a Muslim?", you should not go vote. That is why our nation is in the predicament we are in now. Hoist up the stupid Bush, and the stupid American will vote for him because "They want to have a beer with him". I hope I never will see a President of the United States that I will want to have a beer with. We've already voted for the town drunk.
Strong?
Have you looked in the mirror lately? We are a fat nation; sucking up as much cheese, sugar, caffeine, lard, and salt as our bodies can handle (and just some xtra, just because we can). We are buying pre-packaged, fast food as a way of living (by 'we' meaning 'not me, but almost everyone else), not as a matter of convenience sporadically.
I, for one, have stopped eating fast food (went 2 months without fast food recently), stopped buying soda (only water or Crystal Light mixes), stopped buying cheap, overly-processed beef and other meats, don't drink beer (except on Saturday, if I do), and have done some things called 'exercise'. Results? Went from 205 to 181. Nothing big. Just changed how I eat and what I eat.
Government wants a fat, bloated, morbidly obese citizen. We are a cash cow for the Health Industry (who funds most of our Congressman), and we are so lackadaisical that we don't care what that government does, as long as the burgers are $0.99 and fries and drinks can be Large-Sized.
We are not strong. Hell, we let our America suspend one of the most basic rights given to us by our founders: habeas corpus. Not only has the Bush Administration succeeded in that, until this past week when the Supreme Court showed it still has some 'strength' and overturn the Bush idea of sending alleged "terrorists" to Cuba to locked up forever without any of the basic, fundamental rights given to any charged criminal. We are America. We are above that. We are (I mean used to be) the example to the world on fairness and rule of law.
Other crimes against America perpetrated by Bush and allowed by US include: trying to suspend the constitutional Writ of Habeas Corpus; ramming the totalitarian U.S.A. Patriot Act through Congress; the mass-round-up and incarceration of foreigners; kangaroo courts; depriving at least two United States citizens of their constitutional rights by means of military incarceration; interference with the constitutional right of defendants in criminal cases to lawyers; violating and subverting the Posse Comitatus Act; unlawful and unreasonable searches and seizures; violating the First Amendments rights of the free exercise of religion, freedom of speech, peaceable assembly, and to petition the government for redress of grievances; packing the federal judiciary with hand-picked judges belonging to the totalitarian Federalist Society and undermining the judicial independence of the Constitution's Article III federal court system; violating the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions and the U.S. War Crimes Act; violating the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination; reinstitution of the infamous "Cointelpro" Program; violating the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, the Convention against Torture, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; instituting the totalitarian Total Information Awareness Program; and establishing a totalitarian Northern Military Command for the United States of America itself.
Beautiful? And here is the rest of it.
Is it beautiful that poor white, black, and latino kids are fighting a war that is just solely for the wealthy elitists to maintain their power and lifestyle? Those poor kid's military service is based on the coercion of a system that has denied viable economic opportunities to these classes of citizens. When there is nowhere else to go, choose the military. I'm sure we all know of at least one person who describes that as the reason for joining the military.
Is it beautiful that our 3 separate, but equal branches of government of yore has been modified into a strong, central Executive Branch who works unchecked, and 2 other branches with little or no power. When a simple Constitutional thing like ruling that detaining someone indefinitely is not right. You know, it is ONE OF THE BILL OF RIGHTS, right? The Supreme Court finally ruled indefinite detaining is UNConstitutional, and by a 5-4 vote. One voted decided a basic Constitutional item that is the very definition of American Way. How much in the pocket is the Supreme Court in with the Conservative Right. And Congress, don't get me started. For most of Bush's term he was given the 'green light' on anything he wanted. During this period is when habeas corpus was suspended and warrant-less wiretaps were allowed.
Is it beautiful that a large number of readers on this site may have never known any of these facts happened? That's the beauty of the Spin Machine. Pass a volatile bill harming Americans then proceed to bash anyone who calls them out: calling them lIBERAL, terrorist liking fags. Don't debate the bill, but attack the dissident. What's wrong with being a dissident? Because it is against the Status Quo. This government has taken the basic ideas that make up a Democracy and make it taboo.
Thus the facist nation we are in now. Where Corporations control all aspects of government, protecting only their interests, consolidating through merging mega-corporations, owning most media, filtering truth to the mainstream, ensuring a slave labor pool, and send our military to bomb other countries who possess raw materials that those corporations need to maintain high profit margins. Isn't it beautiful.
And US. Too busy working, socializing, watching reality shows, and looking at internet porn to look at what has happened to our country. A country based on freedoms. A non-Christian nation where government doesn't care what religion you are. Freedom to live how you want to live, as long as you don't violate any other's individual liberties. You know, like being under surveillance 24-7, having your email and phone conversations recorded and filed in a government database, and getting put in prison over innuendo and never getting to see the charges (see also: Franz Kofka's The Trial)
So happy 4th of July America! May you get better with age! I Hope!
And here is the rest of it.
